History
According to City records, the property for Galilee Baptist Church was purchased for thirty dollars ($30) on October 15, 1885. This land was purchased from William and Susan Eller by trustees of the church, namely Frank James, Austin Foster, and James Little. As the church progressed and the membership increased, the people of the church realized the need for a larger structure. In 1954, the land was purchased for a new church at 3208 May Street under the leadership of Rev. Holloway.

In September, 1968, God called Rev. Warren and Josephine McKissick from the Ebenezer Baptist Church to Galilee Baptist Church. The Church experienced tremendous growth. On July 5, 1970, we proudly moved into the Wilmore Presbyterian Church as the Greater Galilee Baptist Church.

For thirty five years, Rev. Warren McKissick led Greater Galilee to higher heights spiritually and financially. In his tenure, Rev McKissick established the official boards of the Church and sprearheaded the initiatives to acquire real estate in the Wilmore Community. In his honor, the Warren Mckissick Mulicultural Center is part of Greater Galilee Baptist Church complex, and the Warren McKissick Scholarship is awarded annually.

In July, 2005, God in His infinite wisdom sent Pastor Robert E. Lee and Terry McGowens to Greater Galilee Baptist Church. The Church continues to experience phenomenal growth. In the first year the Church membership increased by 199 members. God has blessed Greater Galilee Baptist Church in a mighty way. We believe that Pastor McGowens vision and goals will make us a greater church.
